Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the CSFP, you must:

  • Be 60 years old or more;
  • Meet state residency requirements: Reside in one of the participating states or Indian reservations;
  • Have a gross monthly income of less than the poverty line for a single-person household.

Eligibility may also vary based on the location or nutritional risk, so it’s essential to check the requirements for your state.

Women, infants, and children currently receiving CSFP benefits are also eligible to continue to receive assistance under the program rules in effect on Feb. 6, 2014.

Documents

Before applying, ensure you have essential documentation such as proof of identity, residency, and income.

Other documents may include social security cards, Driver’s licenses or ID, and annual Income tax returns, among others.

It’s essential to gather all the required documents before applying to ensure a smooth process.

Every state operates CSFP differently, and the application process may vary. The first step is to contact the CSFP agency for your state for more information on how to apply.

Many states allow you to apply online or through the mail.

The administrator may also assist you in filling out the application and provide information on the required documents.

Once your application is approved, you will receive a monthly box of nutritious food, including canned meat, fruits, vegetables, and grains, or receive the funds to buy it.

You can also get nutrition education and other services to help you maintain a healthy diet.
