On Ally’s website, click the tab “Investing & Retirement” at the top of the page. This will reveal a dropdown menu where you should click the “Get Started” button. Then, click the “Start Trading” button in the “Self-Directed Trading” box. This will take you to another page where you must enter your first and last name, and email address.

Once you click “Register”, the website will show you 3 account options. If you’re planning to invest, choose “Individual” and hit “Next”. Then, enter your birth date, country of citizenship, marital status and number of dependents.

Now, enter your Social Security number and hit “Next” once again. Now the website will ask you to add your home address. Then you must enter your personal phone, a security question and a security answer. Hit next.

Enter your employment information, then read the questions with attention and answer “yes” or “no” truthfully. You will now have to enter your financial information. After that, the website will try to identify your investor profile to help you choose your investments. Enter your investment objective as the options are presented.

Read through the Ally Invest Securities Income Program, and make sure to check the box if you wish to enroll in it. Then hit “Next”. The website will then show you important information regarding the service you’re hiring. Make sure to read through it before clicking on “Agree and Continue”.

Once you’re done reading, hit “Submit Application”, and you are done! You will be informed by email whether your account has been approved.
