Citi Custom Cash℠ Card

The adaptability of the Citi Custom Cash℠ stems from its non-rotating spending categories.

This means it does not require you to enroll in a new category every quarter but can also assess which categories you have been spending more and automatically assign your highest spend category with the 5% cash back on each billing cycle (up to the first $500 spent, 1% cash back thereafter).

Eligible categories include:

  • grocery stores,
  • gas stations,
  • restaurants,
  • select travel,
  • home improvement stores,
  • select streaming services,
  • drugstores,
  • select transit,
  • fitness clubs and live entertainment.

The Citi Custom Cash℠ Card also offers a $200 cash back on the first $1,500 you spend in the first 6 months of opening your account.

You will receive it in the form of ThankYou® points and may be redeemed as a statement credit, direct deposit, a check in the mail, gift cards, student loan or mortgage payments, or even donating to charity.

As we mentioned earlier, convenience is one of the most relevant features of the Citi Custom Cash℠ Card, along with the 5% cash back on the first $500 spent on one of the eligible categories and 0% Intro APR on balance transfers and purchases for 15 months. After that, the variable APR will be 18.99% – 28.99%, based on your creditworthiness.

However, once you hit the $500 cap on one eligible category (which will earn you $25), you will only get 1% cash back until the next billing cycle, even on eligible categories. Besides that, all purchases outside the eligible categories will earn you only 1% cash back.

Here’s a quick list of pros and cons for the Citi Custom Cash℠:

Pros

  • Earn $200 cash back after you spend $1,500 on purchases in the first 6 months of account opening. This bonus offer will be fulfilled as 20,000 ThankYou® Points, which can be redeemed for $200 cash back.
  • 0% Intro APR on balance transfers and purchases for 15 months. After that, the variable APR will be 18.99% – 28.99%, based on your creditworthiness.
  • Earn 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500 spent, 1% cash back thereafter. Also, earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases.
  • No rotating bonus categories to sign up for – as your spending changes each billing cycle, your earn adjusts automatically when you spend in any of the eligible categories.
  • No Annual Fee
  • Citi will only issue one Citi Custom Cash(SM) Card account per person.
